Parkville

Parkville is the major precinct in Australia for medical and bioscientific research, education, clinical practice, production of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products for clinical trials. This area, near Melbourne’s central business district is home to 2,000 researchers, over A$200 million in research funding, 12 research institutes, a number of hospitals and major industrial companies, the University of Melbourne and the neurosciences consortium, Neurosciences Victoria.

NeuroParkville

Located within the Parkville precinct are a number of centres of outstanding neuroscience research. NeuroParkville has been established to inform potential Honours, Masters and PhD students of the neuroscience-based projects available in Parkville.

Centre for Neuroscience - A University of Melbourne centre for neuroscience education and research, based in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

Florey Neuroscience Institutes - Florey Neuroscience Institutes (FNI) is the largest brain research group in the Southern Hemisphere. With more than 500 research and support staff on two campuses, FNI scientists are searching for cures to the complex, debilitating and sometimes life threatening brain disorders that affect three million Australians.

Epilepsy Research Centre - Australia's premier clinical research group investigating the genetics, structural neurobiology, surgical treatment and psychological aspects of epilepsy, located at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre.

Genomic Disorders Research Centre - The GDRC strives for excellence focusing on gene mutation, its cause, detection, documentation, consequences and cure.

Mental Health Research Institute - The Mental Health Research Institute's mission is to further knowledge in mental health, behaviour and neuroscience.

Murdoch Childrens Research Institute - The MCRI, based at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, conducts life-saving medical research into conditions that affect babies, children and adolescents. The institute is affiliated with The University of Melbourne.

Neurosciences Victoria - Neurosciences Victoria is a consortium of universities, research institutes and teaching hospitals working together to enhance scientific and technological capabilities in the field of neuroscience, and to facilitate commercialisation opportunities.
