Parkville
Parkville is the major precinct in Australia for medical and bioscientific research, education, clinical practice, production of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products for clinical trials. This area, near Melbourne’s central business district is home to 2,000 researchers, over A$200 million in research funding, 12 research institutes, a number of hospitals and major industrial companies, the University of Melbourne and the neurosciences consortium, Neurosciences Victoria.
NeuroParkville
Located within the Parkville precinct are a number of centres of outstanding neuroscience research. NeuroParkville has been established to inform potential Honours, Masters and PhD students of the neuroscience-based projects available in Parkville.

BIO21 Molecular Science & Biotechnology Institute - The Bio21 Institute is a multidisciplinary research centre, specializing in medical, agricultural and environmental biotechnology. The institute is based on Flemington Road and is affiliated with The University of Melbourne.
Brain Research Institute - Located at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre, the Brain Research Institute operates the first 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine installed in the Southern hemisphere, and conducts studies to help understand the structure and function of healthy and injured brains.

Genomic Disorders Research Centre - The GDRC strives for excellence focusing on gene mutation, its cause, detection, documentation, consequences and cure.
Howard Florey Institute - Florey scientists conduct fundamental research that can be developed into drugs to combat brain injury and mind disorders, and into new medical practices.
Mental Health Research Institute - The Mental Health Research Institute's mission is to further knowledge in mental health, behaviour and neuroscience.
Murdoch Childrens Research Institute - The MCRI, based at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, conducts life-saving medical research into conditions that affect babies, children and adolescents. The institute is affiliated with The University of Melbourne.
National Stroke Research Institute - The NSRI is located at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre and plays a key role in national and international clinical trials of treatments for stroke, as also stroke-related basic sciences, neuroimaging, ultrasound, epidemiology and neurorehabilitation.
Neurosciences Victoria - Neurosciences Victoria is a consortium of universities, research institutes and teaching hospitals working together to enhance scientific and technological capabilities in the field of neuroscience, and to facilitate commercialisation opportunities.
